Ondrives Springs Range

Ondrives Ltd. of Chesterfield has a wide range of springs available to purchase off the shelf from their latest 936 page mechanical drive components catalogue, the company states.

The selection ranges from compression, extension, torsion and die springs to cover a multitude of different application possibilities. The compression springs are stainless steel and sizes start from a tiny 1.20mm outside diameter with a free length of 2mm, right up to 68mm O/D with a 585mm free length, so every size is catered for. There are also compression springs available in metre lengths for those applications that require it, and these are available in both stainless steel and music wire as standard.

Extension springs are another popular stock product and are kept in stainless steel as standard with sizes ranging from 2.50mm outside diameter with a free length of 7.90mm as the smallest up to 10.00mm O/D with a 68mm free length the biggest size available. Metre long lengths are also available in either music wire or stainless steel.

Torsion springs are sold in both left and right hand wound helix versions and are stainless steel as standard. Again, a range of different sizes are available ranging from 0.30mm wire thickness with an O/D of 2.36mm up to 11.96mm O/D and a wire thickness of 0.89mm.

Die springs are available in a range of different colours and these colours denote levels of duty. For example, the green die springs are light to medium duty depending on the dimensions of the spring, medium duty is blue, heavy duty is red and extra heavy duty is yellow. This makes it easy when customers are replacing die springs in their application to see exactly which spring they need without the need for testing loads, etc. All load deflection figures are given in detail in the Ondrives catalogue so customers can make the correct selection for their application. As a general rule, the best thing to observe in spring selection is to always use as many springs as the die will accommodate which will produce the required load with the least amount of deflection. This will increase the useful life of the spring, reduce the chances of spring failure and the resulting downtime, loss of production and increased maintenance cost.
