Ondrives Ltd. sells a range of seals from their mechanical drive components catalogue as standard.

V-seals are popular items with what is known as a ‘VA type profile’ by having a perpendicular rear face. It is a general purpose seal suitable for most applications, and other forms of V-seal are available on request. Sizes range from 2.70mm-73.00mm shaft diameter and they are all made from nitrile rubber.

The other range available are oil seals which have an operating temperature of between -30ºC to +90ºC as standard. Other oil seals are available which are manufactured from Viton rubber which is suitable for a greater operating temperature of between -30ºC to +200ºC, the temperature ranges are dependent on the elements in contact, such as oil or grease.

The rubber elastomer of the oil seal outer covers thermal expansion as well as roughness in the housing bore. There will be little or no fretting corrosion, the company states. Damage of the housing bore will be prevented when frequently replacing the seal. This qualifies it amply for sealing gaseous or liquid media. The recommended fitting is to shaft h9 (min 45HRC) (1 to 4Ra) (20º lead in Chf) and housing H8 (5º to 10º lead in Chf).
