A range of precision and standard centreless ground shafting is available from Ondrives.

The precision centreless 303 stainless steel ground shafting is manufactured to h6 tolerance with diameters available from 2.992mm up to 29.992mm as standard. Most are available in standard lengths ranging from 300mm up to 1000mm maximum. Specials can be machined upon receipt of customer's drawings, with higher surface finishes, tighter straightness and diameter tolerances all available if required.

The unhardened steel centreless version is available in diameters ranging from 2.00mm to 30.00mm & all are available in a choice of three different lengths – 333mm, 1 metre and 3 metres. These shafts are suitable for hardening, and this can be achieved very easily the company states. Heat slowly to 760ºC - 800ºC, austentitize until the temperature is uniform and then quench into well agitated water. The quench hardness is 65-68 Hrc (approx) and needs tempering immediately after hardening, preferably before the tool reaches room temperature. Temper for a minimum of one hour at temperatures between 180ºC to 350ºC, dependant upon the final hardness required.

Ondrives offer a range of hardened and ground linear shafting for use with linear bearings.

There is a drilled version of the hard linear shafting which can be used with open linear bearings. This is offered as h6 induction ground shafting in diameters from 12mm to 50mm and lengths of 600mm or 1200mm as standard. Other lengths are available on request depending on availability.

Other hardened and ground linear shafting available includes h6 tolerance, steel or stainless versions in diameters from 3mm up to 80mm (steel only) and 3mm up to 30mm (stainless). Standard lengths offered are 1000mm for diameters of 5mm upwards, with a maximum length of 7800mm on certain diameters. Special machining is available on request as are special tolerances on length if required.

Other special shafting available includes ceramic shafting which can be specially quoted for in small diameters and lengths featuring high hardness, high temperature use and chemical resistance.

Linear bearings are most suitable for use with hardened linear shafts and are available as standard from Ondrives to order together. Polishing down may be required in order to achieve running tolerance.
